Twice-Daily Adventures with Augie the Doberman 🐾💙
Meet Augie - A handsome, playful, and incredibly sweet 14-month-old Doberman who has quickly become one of my favorite walking companions!
While Augie’s mom is away on vacation, I have the pleasure of spending 13 days keeping him active, entertained, and well cared for at home here in Sequim. We begin each day with an hour-long walk at around 8:30 in the morning, and then I return at approximately 6:30 in the evening for another hour of exercise and companionship.
During each walk, we usually cover between two and a half and three miles, which means Augie and I are certainly getting our steps in! Our walks give him plenty of opportunities to stretch those long Doberman legs, explore the neighborhood, sniff all the important smells, and burn off some of that wonderful young-dog energy.
Augie is everything you could hope for in a walking companion. He is incredibly friendly, super playful, eager to learn, and remarkably smart. He responds beautifully to commands and clearly enjoys having a routine. Although Dobermans can look very serious and dignified, Augie is still a lovable 14-month-old puppy at heart, with plenty of curiosity, enthusiasm, and personality!
Over the course of our time together, Augie and I have developed such a sweet bond. He is always happy to see me arrive, and I’m equally happy to see his adorable face waiting for me. That relationship is one of my favorite parts of providing consistent pet care. When a dog sees the same familiar person every day, they learn that their routine is safe, dependable, and most importantly fun.
Twice-daily dog walking can be especially helpful when a pet parent is traveling. It allows dogs like Augie to remain comfortably in their own home while still receiving regular exercise, individual attention, mental stimulation, and lots of affection. It also provides the consistency of having one trusted person caring for them throughout their owner’s time away.
For young, energetic dogs, a quick trip outside often isn’t enough. Augie benefits from having two full hours of walking and companionship each day, divided between morning and evening. By the time we return home, he has had the opportunity to explore, play, practice his commands, and enjoy some genuine one-on-one attention.
Spending these 13 days with Augie has been an absolute joy. He’s cute, clever, affectionate, and just a little bit goofy… the perfect combination! I’m thoroughly enjoying our morning and evening adventures, and judging by the enthusiastic welcome I receive, I think it’s safe to say that Augie is enjoying them just as much as I am.
