Why I Started Willow Home Pet Care

For a long time, I was the person leaving town. Packing a bag, double-checking flight times, and hoping everything at home would be okay while I was gone. I’ve travelled extensively over the years, both for work and for my personal life, and no matter how exciting the destination was, there was always that quiet knot in my stomach when it came time to leave my pets behind. Anyone who loves animals knows that feeling.

Over time, I realised that the hardest part of travelling wasn’t the logistics or the jet lag, it was trust. Trusting that the person caring for my pets would truly understand them, respect their routines, and notice the little things that matter.

That’s where Willow Home Pet Care began.

Learning the hard way what pets actually need

I share my home with an elderly Australian Shepherd, Ozzie and two cats, Comet and Mahina. My dog, like many seniors, doesn’t adapt easily to change. Boarding facilities were overwhelming for him, often too noisy, too unfamiliar, and frankly, too stressful. The cats? They tolerated it, but they were never truly comfortable being removed from their space.

What I wanted didn’t feel unreasonable:

  • I wanted my pets to stay home.

  • I wanted someone calm, attentive, and reliable.

  • I wanted updates, reassurance, and the sense that someone genuinely cared.

  • And I found that this kind of care, unrushed, thoughtful, and personalised, was surprisingly hard to come by.

From personal need to purposeful care

As I talked with other pet owners, I realised I wasn’t alone. So many people felt the same anxiety when leaving town. They weren’t just looking for a “pet sitter” they were looking for peace of mind.

Willow Home Pet Care grew from that exact place. I created this service to offer the kind of care I wish had always been available to me: in-home, boutique-style pet and home care that prioritises comfort, routine, and trust. No revolving door of clients. No rushed drop-ins. No treating animals like checklists. Just genuine, attentive care tailored to each home and each pet.

Why in-home care matters (especially for seniors and cats)

Pets thrive on familiarity. Senior dogs, anxious animals, and cats in particular often do best when they can remain in their own environment. Their smells, their sleeping spots, their daily rhythms, it all matters more than we sometimes realise.

Keeping pets at home:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety

  • Maintains established routines

  • Minimises exposure to illness

  • Allows for closer observation and care

It also allows me to notice the subtle things like the slight change in appetite, the extra stiffness in an older dog’s walk, or the cat who suddenly wants more reassurance than usual. Those details matter.

A calm, intentional approach

I intentionally keep my bookings limited so I can be fully present and responsive. That means clear communication, regular updates, and the confidence that your home and pets are being treated with respect.

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. Some pets want playtime and stimulation; others want quiet companionship. Some homes need just the basics; others appreciate a bit of extra attention while they’re away. My goal is always the same: to leave your home exactly as you left it and your pets feeling safe, settled, and cared for.

More than pet sitting

Willows Home Pet Care isn’t just about feeding schedules and walks (though those are always handled with care). It’s about trust. It’s about knowing that while you’re away, whether for a weekend or a longer trip, someone is looking after the things you love as if they were their own.

I started this service because I understand how hard it is to leave. And I continue it because I know how much it matters to come home to relaxed pets, a calm space, and the sense that everything was truly taken care of.

That’s the heart of Willow Home Pet Care.
